For many years, Walton’s mailed holiday cards and a small gift to our customers to show our appreciation for their business. But in 2002, we decided to take the spirit of holiday giving to a new level so we could benefit those less fortunate in our community. That’s when we started to donate heating oil during the holiday season.
“My mother Diane gets the credit,” says Chris Walton. “We had figured out that the cost of mailing out holiday cards was the equivalent of 3,000 gallons of heating oil. My mother said, ‘Why not make a donation of heating oil in the name of our customers instead?’ The whole family agreed because we knew this would make a positive difference in the lives of many people around here.”
Our next step was to find a trusted partner to get the heating oil to the people who needed it most. That’s why we teamed up with Manna on Main Street in Lansdale. Founded in 1981, Manna on Main Street provides a soup kitchen and food pantry, and a variety of other programs to help individuals in need. The vision of Manna on Main Street is “that everyone might be fed.”
With their help, we have been able to follow through on one of our own visions: “that everyone might be warm.”
