We infuse our reformulated heating oil with renewable biofuel to make it more environmentally friendly and energy efficient.
Bioheat® fuel is a blend of ultra-low-sulfur heating oil combined with biodiesel made from renewable resources like animal fats, recycled restaurant cooking oil and plant oils.
A gallon-for-gallon substitute for traditional petroleum, biodiesel is a “decarbonizing-now” solution. Bioheat® fuel can reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by up to 86% compared to traditional petroleum heating oil.
Moving forward, the heating oil industry has committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 due to the increased use of Bioheat® fuel with higher blends. The end goal is B100 Bioheat® fuel, which means 100% biodiesel and 0% petroleum. Walton’s is honored to be a part of this effort to protect our environment.
Bioheat® fuel represents one of the best ways of reducing emissions in the environment right now without sacrificing comfort or needing to undertake expensive, disruptive equipment replacements.
You don’t lose any heating power with ultra-low-sulfur Bioheat® fuel. On the contrary, it burns much more efficiently, reducing heating system maintenance, improving energy efficiency and lowering emissions. And it has the highest Btu content of any alternative fuel. You don’t need to modify your heating system in any way to start using heating oil blended with biofuel.
Q: Is Bioheat® fuel safe for my home?
A: Yes. Bioheat® fuel is extremely safe. It is nontoxic and produces significantly fewer emissions than traditional heating fuels, making it safe for your home and the environment.
Q: Does Bioheat® fuel cost more?
A: Bioheat® fuel is valued and priced comparably to traditional heating fuels on the market. Bioheat® fuel enhances the operational performance of your heating equipment, keeping it cleaner and optimized to deliver more efficiency.
Q: Are there different types of Bioheat® fuel?
A: Yes, there are different types of Bioheat® fuel blends. Right now, these commonly range from B2 Bioheat® fuel (2% biodiesel) to B20 Bioheat® fuel (20% biodiesel). The industry plans to continue to increase the blend of biodiesel to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
Q: Do I need to make any changes to my heating oil system to use Bioheat fuel?
A: No. You don’t have to do anything different and you won’t need to make any changes to your furnace, boiler or heating oil tank to use it. Performance standards for Bioheat fuel have been approved by ASTM International, an organization that sets industry standards for fuels and lubricants.
Q: What makes biodiesel renewable?
A: Biodiesel is a renewable resource because the materials used to make it are agricultural by-products, also known as feedstocks. They are readily available, made during agricultural production and would go to waste if not used to make biodiesel.
Q: Why is Bioheat® fuel a viable renewable energy solution?
A: Here are four reasons:
